Celebrating his first 100 days back in office, President Donald Trump didn’t hold back when addressing critics of his aggressive trade policies. With living costs climbing, some former supporters are regretting their votes. Trump’s response? A succinct, unapologetic eight-word statement: “I don’t care. I did what was right.”

During his 2024 campaign, Trump promised to make life more affordable for Americans. He vowed to reduce prices by increasing domestic oil production, famously declaring, “We will drill, baby, drill.” However, since his return to the Oval Office, his “America First Trade Policy” has introduced steep tariffs—10% on most countries, 25% on autos, steel, and aluminum, and a staggering 145% on Chinese imports.
These tariffs have led to retaliatory measures from trade partners. China has imposed 125% tariffs on U.S. goods, and the European Union is preparing its countermeasures. Despite concerns about rising prices on everyday items, Trump remains steadfast, stating, “That’s good…they deserve it,” and asserting that other countries have been exploiting the U.S. for years.
In an interview with ABC’s Terry Moran, Trump dismissed worries about the economic impact of his policies. He claimed the country is “doing great” and that the trade measures are correcting years of abuse by other nations. When confronted with international criticism, particularly from Canada, Trump shrugged it off, emphasizing his commitment to making America great again.
For those expressing buyer’s remorse, Trump’s message is clear: he’s unapologetic and believes his actions are justified.
